            Battle at Devil's Bend

Sophie's ride like Paul Revere,
Pulls at our heart strings
As we hold her memory dear.
Message to Quantrill,
The Yankees are here!

William Quantrill a striking figure,
Black flag flying, full of vigor,
22 December, '63, a miracle,
That Quantrill chose to ride South
A week before Christmas, what a gift!

Guerrillas rode into the fray,
Reins in their teeth, revolvers blazing,
In both hands, Quantrill in front,
His captains by his side,
Valor, bravery, victory,
Full stride!

Quantrill's Captains shout commands,
Guerrillas immediately respond,
No time to wait,
Not afraid of their fate, Quantrill at Devil's Bend,
Flew into  the Jayhawkers callng to their friends.

Blue coated bodies "lay like rag dolls",
Bravery and determnation saved
Our North Texas confederation
And our Confederate nation.

Looking back with great respect,
Pride and love circumspect,
Let us remember the boys who fought,
Were wounded, fought and gave their all!
Now in our time too, we must stand tall!
