Description: Hoodoo Brown was the leader of the Dodge City Gang in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He arrived in Las Vegas in the late 1870s and was elected Justice of the Peace and later the Mayor. Ironic, as he led a band of thieves called the Dodge City Gang with J.J. Webb, Mysterious Dave Mather, Dave Rudabaugh, and others. They robbed stagecoaches, trains and participated in municipal corruption from 1879-1880. He was also elected as the city Coroner which allowed him to rule whether a death was murder or not! Vigilantes eventually drove Hoodoo from the state. The woman with him is thought to be Elizabeth "Brown" his common law wife. She was a drunk and prostitute. It was reported they also had a son. Hoodoo died in Mexico. The image is only listed as Hoodoo Brown in the journal and could be one of the other known "Hoodoo Browns" . However, it is listed with the other images of the men who were part of the Las Vegas Hoodoo's gang. Unless another image is presented to me to prove this image is not the Las Vegas Hoodoo, I will assume that George Myerson Jr. knew who it was here. (EAC).
